TheMeanOnes Darkness Overhaul V3.0 is an environmental overhaul mod for 7 Days to Die, transforming the game’s lighting, fog, and ambiance to immerse you in a darker, more apocalyptic world. With barely any light at night and eerie, blood-colored fog that appears unpredictably, this mod creates a world where the environment itself is a constant threat. Compatible with versions 1.0 & 1.1 Stable, this mod is perfect for players looking for a more intense and atmospheric survival experience.
Features:
1. Barely Lit, Oppressive Nights
- The nighttime environment has been made extremely dark, with just enough light to make out the immediate surroundings.
- Ambient light from the sky, ground, and equator is reduced to minimal levels, ensuring low visibility but allowing for a shadowy outline of the environment.
- Moonlight has been greatly diminished, providing only a faint, eerie glow at night.
2. Brighter, Apocalyptic Daytime
- The daytime lighting has been revamped to be brighter and clearer, giving players more visibility.
- Despite this, the day still carries a desaturated, bleak tone, reflecting the devastation of the world around you.
3. Blood-Colored Fog for Added Tension
- Blood-colored fog will occasionally appear and disappear, creating a foreboding atmosphere and moments of intense unease.
- The fog is dense, limiting visibility and adding to the apocalyptic, horror-themed setting, making players feel isolated and in constant danger.
4. Interior Lighting Overhaul
- Brighter indoor lighting during the day allows for visibility in safe areas, but at night, interiors become dim and claustrophobic.
- The minimal lighting indoors at night makes buildings feel dark, enclosed, and foreboding, adding an extra layer of tension as you navigate even your safest spaces.
5. Smooth Lighting Transitions
- The transition from outdoor to indoor lighting is gradual and realistic, simulating how your eyes adjust when moving from bright daylight into dark interiors, enhancing immersion.
Gameplay Experience:
- Nighttime survival becomes a daunting task, as darkness envelopes the world, forcing you to rely on light sources like torches or headlamps to navigate.
- The blood-colored fog that comes and goes unpredictably creates moments of tension and unease, forcing players to remain on high alert.
- The daytime environment provides temporary relief, though the world remains grim and desolate, reminding you that safety is never guaranteed.
- Indoors, even safe zones can feel oppressive at night due to the minimal lighting, ensuring that the game’s tension never lets up.
Key Features Summary:
- Extremely dark nights with reduced ambient light and minimal moonlight.
- Brighter daytime lighting for better visibility, though still desaturated for an apocalyptic feel.
- Blood-colored fog that appears unpredictably, creating moments of dread and limited visibility.

Is this a server-side mod??
Absolutely
Thank you for the mod, it fantastic, but is it possible to make the skies look black at night?
They are now as dark as they can get. However, I am working on a C# mod to make them pitch black.
For me its only dark inside a POI,outside is still the same, any suggestions?
thanks this mod make the game feel more apcoliptic 🙂
Boom! Exactly the goal 🙂
You just don’t want us to see you stealing the presents.
Honestly…. You caught me … 🤣
Well, for me no working…i add ..and nothing changed…. version of game V1.1
Its funy because i change event in game
<property name=”ambientMoon” value=”0, 0″/> And nothing changed ….
It was not 1.1 when you left this. It’s now updated.
Also it could be conflicting with another mod you have or be the settings on your GPU. Every GPU is different so it may need tweaked. 5K combined downloads and many endorsements. The mod works.
Does this work with war3zuk mod and version 1.0?
Not sure. Try it and let me know
how do you know if the mod is working? also i didn’t see a .dll in the compressed files, is that normal?
Why would there be a DLL? You’ll know it works when you walk into a POI and it gets darker as night time arrives. Also the outside is darker.
