Black Wolf’s Nerfed Animals

7 days to die black wolfs nerfed animals, 7 days to die zombies, 7 days to die animals
  • Have you ever started a playthrough and had to fight a Zombie Dog or a Zombie Vulture?
  • These “lovely” creatures have the peculiarity of NOT being affected by the setting that changes the zombies walking/running speed, means that they will always be at their max speed no matter what. That means if they spot you and decide to attack you, it’s pretty much certain death even if you try to escape, unless you barricade yourself into a building or use building blocks to cheese the dog, these two are some of the fastest creatures in the game.
  • While normal Vultures are rather weak they have the advantage of flying at high speed, being a major bother if they’re chasing you on your bicycle or on foot, forcing you to find a building, and even then they won’t give up and start attacking the roof to get to you, annoyance at its finest. Still, on insane difficulty if you dare to miss a hit on a vulture, that can cost you 40 HP, in less than a second. (thanks for the amazing melee system funPimps)
  • On the other hand dogs are often tankier than some of the regular zombies, also with a completely retarded attack speed of 0.7 seconds, dogs are close to immune to getting stunned by most melee weapons, making only sledgehammers and stun batons somewhat reliable against them. Clubs can work too but are less effective.
  • In update 1.0 Mountain lions have been disgustingly buffed, now able to run at the speed of a vulture that is chasing a vehicle and dealing the same damage as a zombie bear. This is absolutely absurd and makes this relatively small animal absolutely cancerous to fight, granted it has less than 1000HP.

This mod aims to nerf almost ALL the animals to make them more balanced compared to the player on higher difficulties.

List of Changes

Zombie Dog

Attack speed increased from 0.7s to 1.5s

Zombie Vulture

  • Attack speed increased from 0.7s to 1.5s
  • Reduced aggro speed to 1.2

Zombie Vulture Radiated

  • Attack speed increased from 0.7s to 1.75s
  • Reduced aggro speed to 1.2

Zombie Bear

  • Range reduced from 3.6 to 2.0
  • Attack speed increased from 1.5s to 1.75s
  • base damage reduced from 60 to 50

Coyote

  • Attack speed increased from 0.7s to 1.4s
  • Range reduced from 1.4 to 1.0

Wolf

Attack speed increased from 0.6 to 1.2

Dire Wolf

  • Range reduced from 2.2 to 2.0
  • Attack speed increased from 0.8s to 1.75s
  • Base damage reduced from 60 to 40

Mountain Lion

  • Range reduced from 2.2 to 2.0
  • Attack speed increased from 0.8s to 1.6s
  • Reduced aggro speed to 1.7 during the day and 2.0 during the night, the guy that thought giving this thing the same aggro speed a vulture gets when chasing a vehicle should be slapped in the face, twice.

(the attack speed means that the AI has to wait that amount of time before it can attack again, i don’t know you but a little more than half a second is simply too low)
Note: the zombie bear nerf also applies to the standard non-zombie bear. Bears do enough damage to oneshot you anyway on higher difficulty, i wanted to give the player a chance of escaping if they have enough armor to survive the hit.

Changelog

Version 1.6

  • Updated mod for game version 1.0 b330
  • Reduced nerf to mountain lion aggro speed
  • Added mountain lion nerf separately as it previously extended to the DIreWolf. Finally the geniuses at FunPimps figured out that this thing dealing 60 base damage wasn’t too balanced and nerfed it down to 22 base.

Version 1.5

Removed property that changes the HP of harvestable corpses.

Black Wolf, there was another vanilla game update earlier today and this is from the change log:

Changed:
* Mountain Lion is no longer extending from Dire Wolf and using its own hand item

I believe the way your mod is written should not cause errors in this update, however you may want to add Mountain Lion’s own hand as it no longer just extends from Dire Wolf’s and has its own values in play which you would need to tweak separately now.

Curious why you didn’t nerf the speed of any of the animals and mostly just attack timings, as it seems to be one of the main pain points you kept mentioning, especially for the mountain lion. Is it something you can’t change?

aggro speed IS the speed of the animal when chasing a player.

I downloaded the mod and checked it, alongside of the attack speed or delay, it actually changes the speed at which they move too. I’m more concerned about setting hit points for dead bodies to 250 (very low) for basically every entity. This doesn’t include just zombies and animals, but also other NPCs from any other mod loaded on the list before this one. This is a big concern because some mods already modify these values for their own purposes. Generally speaking, if you set that value too low and you hit that entity with a weapon that together with buffs, perks and whatnot deals damage higher than this value, the entity will just disappear, preventing you from harvesting its dead body or looting it (if that’s the kind of mods you have installed and use).

I’ll remove that setting in the next update
