ZM Day-Time Strategy: Resource Denial and Harassment

The primary goal during the day is to heavily drain and deny the Survivors’ resources to set up an win during the night.

  • Deny Ammo and Medkits Early (Day 1 Focus):
    • Find all Ammo Crates: The ZM’s first and biggest priority is to quickly find and destroy all available ammo crates on the map [00:11]. Denying ammo early is a massive gain that forces Survivors to struggle in later rounds [00:38].
    • Hunt for Medkits by “Bullying”: Once ammo is denied, the focus shifts to stripping Survivors of their medkits. The strategy is to target one person at a time [01:15]. This is done to force them to use their medkits or be constantly guarded by teammates, draining the team’s time and resources when they could otherwise be scavenging or building defenses [08:26].
    • Tactical Tip: Avoid fighting Survivors on an incline (like a ramp) because it makes it difficult to catch them if they speed down [01:47].
  • Continuous Harassment and Resource Drain (Day 2+):
    • Harass and Annoy: The general daytime goal is not necessarily to get kills, but to be “annoying” and distract them [03:00]. This prevents Survivors from efficiently building or preparing their base. Target a single survivor until they use their medkits, then cycle to the next to use up medkits throughout the team, especially if they looted a medkit during the day stage.
    • Deny Revives and Airdrops: After downing a Survivor, protect the dead body to deny a revive, or harass the area to make the revive risky [05:34], [07:50]. Screamers have area of effect damage that can disrupt revives from distance. If you can continually disrupt revives, you can waste a lot of time for multiple Survivors during the day stages when they would otherwise be able to set up defenses. If airdrops or other valuable loot crates spawn, try to deny them, or at least force the Survivors to commit their time and resources to defending them [06:48], [14:41].

ZM Night-Time Strategy: The “Cheap and Squishy” Siege

The night-time strategy in this guide focuses on overwhelming the enemy with mass-produced, low-cost zombies to distract and siege their base.

  • Utilize “Cheap and Squishy” Zombies (Sleepers/Radiated):
    • The core of the strategy relies on the “Cheap and Squishy” perk, which allows the ZM player to spawn numerous low-cost units like Sleepers and Radiated zombies [03:58], [11:49].
    • Initial Night Goal: Drain Ammo: The first night’s main goal is to use the cheap zombies (Sleepers and Screamers) to “drain ammo,” not necessarily to get a kill [04:36].
    • Use Radiated Zombies as Meat Shields: The Radiated zombies act as decoys to draw the Survivors’ attention [11:58]. This allows the main damage-dealing unit, a Hunter (like the Toaster used in the video), to get in and deal damage without being immediately targeted [12:08].
  • Additional ZM Player Tactics (The Hunter):
    • Exploit Blind Spots and Distractions: Look for unguarded areas of the base, where the Survivors either forgot or didn’t have time to demolish the entry points during the Day stage [09:53], [11:22]. Use the zombie horde as a distraction to flank and eliminate distracted Survivors [10:29], [19:01].
    • Use Enrage for Damage/Speed: The Enrage ability should be used to gain faster attack speed and increased entity damage when targeting Survivors [10:24], [18:48].
    • Crouch to Speed Up Right-Click Attack: When using Enrage, crouching speeds up the right-click attack animation allowing for quicker demolition of obtacles [10:17].
    • Understand Push Priority: Fighting against melee players (knife players) can be difficult as the Survivors have “push priority” over zombies [09:18], [14:13].

Recommended ZM Perks/Build

The strategy is built around specific perks that enable the resource-draining siege:

  1. Cheap and Squishy (Level 3 Perk): The most essential perk. It makes Roamer zombie spawns very cheap, enabling the sieging tactic [21:42], [21:46].
  2. Hungry and Angry: 30% increase for Sleeper damage during the Day stages, which helps chip away health to induce use of medkits and reduce resources [22:04].
  3. Crit Chance: “funny crit number go burr” (high damage) [22:07].
