Rolling Thunder – Pogesque

Description

The ‘Rolling Thunder Mod’ has the following effects:

  • On hit, provides 5% more attack speed, 0.75% less stamina consumption but 0.75% less damage.
  • The effect above stacks up to 10 times, for a total of 50% more attack speed, 7.5% less stamina consumption, and 7.5% less damage.
    • You’re swinging wildly at this point; you can’t make each blow at full strength 😉
  • Stacks last 3 seconds before all fall off but refresh the duration with each new stack.
  • At max stacks, the buff duration can be increased by 1 second per hit, up to a cap of 10 seconds.
    • This is for those long-winded fights like Day 7 where the zombies are coming, but they might take more time to get to you.

Important things to note:

  • This mod can be applied to anything with the ‘melee’ tag, including tools
  • The ‘on-hit’ condition only applies to other entities, including their corpses.
  • If you switch away from the item with the ‘Rolling Thunder Mod’ attachment, all stacks are instantly lost, and the buff goes away.
    • I’ve tested this well, try to get around it if you want 🙂

For you resource gatherers, there’s the ‘Railroad Driver’ mod with the following effects:

  • On block hit, provides 5% more attack speed, 1.5% less stamina consumption, but deals 0.75% less damage.
  • The effect above stacks up to 10 times, for a total of 50% more attack speed, 15% less stamina consumption, and 7.5% less damage.
  • The ‘on-hit’ condition only applies to blocks, destroying or damaging them.
    • Hitting an entity will instantly cause all stacks to fall off.
  • If you switch away from the item with the ‘Railroad Driver’ attachment, all stacks are instantly lost, and the buff goes away.
    • I’ve tested this well, you can try to get around it if you want 🙂

These mods can be crafting at a workbench (no schematic), bought at the trader, or looted. They don’t have a schematic as I’d like anyone with the resources to make them as soon as they can. They’re more of snowball items, anyway, adding to an already strong character.

There is a legendary and mythic variants of these attachments that are much stronger than the standard versions:

  • The Blitzkrieg – A marvel of science, provides a more potent buff that stacks attack speed upon hitting ANYTHING.
  • Hellfire Storm – From ash and brimstone, a ‘Rolling Thunder’ variant that can stack endlessly.
  • Divine Augment – A gift from above, a ‘Railroad Driver’ variant that can stack endlessly.

This is the mod I’m most proud of now, with how intricate this is, and I’ve learned so much. I might be looking to make a larger mod with more attachments in the same vein, so stay tuned 👀

Can it be used with other mods?

  • Yes! I’m curious to see what other mods you can pair this one with, like ‘Club Mods for All

Can I use it on an existing save?

  • Of course!

Can I use it on an EAC server?

  • Sure! It does manipulate the XML code but would not be detected by EAC.

Changelogs

v0.3: Mythic Variants, Tweaks, and Bugfixes

  • Added mythic variants for Rolling Thunder and Railroad Driver
  • Allow the player to stack attack speed with no cap.
  • Damage and stamina consumption reduction is capped at a set amount of stacks.
  • Stack duration is slightly shorter, so keep them going!
  • Can only be found at high loot tables or bought at a high price.
  • Requires a schematic to craft, which can also only be looted or bought.
  • Stats unknown, so get out there and find them!
  • Added a UI element for buff duration.
  • This is coded as a secondary buff that only shows the duration of the real buff you’re receiving.
  • Does not provide any additional effects; Purely for information.
  • Tweaked the buff duration refresh/increase mechanic.
  • Old: On-hit, at max stacks, add 1 additional second. If the buff did not have max stacks, set the duration to 3 seconds.
  • New: On-hit, at max stacks, if the current duration is at least 3 seconds, add 1 additional second. If the duration is less than 3 seconds, set the duration to 3 seconds.
  • Upon reaching max stacks, it felt like a punishment to keep the buff going. Now it will ensure you have at least 3 seconds instead before trying to give you additional time.
  • Fixed the junk sledge not benefiting from the attack speed boosts.
  • Similar to motor tools, they are based on an ammunition system.
  • This fix only applies to when being held; Placed turrets still see no benefit.
  • Attempted a solution with no results; Does not warrant delaying this release.
  • Known Issues:
    • The buff % display shows trailing zeros at random intervals.
    • An issue with how TFP display decimal values in XML; No real solution.
    • Does not impact functionality.
Previous Updates

v0.21: Balance Tweaks and Bugfixes

  • Fixed an issue with motor tools not getting any attack speed benefit from any of the attachments
    • Motor tools are coded like guns, so they need a ‘fire rate’ boost instead.
  • Adjusted the damage and stamina usage reduction for each attachment to be ~25% less.
    • Damage penalties were large enough to discourage survivors from applying this attachment over others.
    • ‘The Blitzkrieg’ had its damage penalty reduced by 50%, especially since it’s a legendary variant.
  • Reduced the cost of ‘The Blitzkrieg’ attachment by 15%.

v0.2: New Additions and QoL Changes, Legendary Variant 👀

  • Added ‘Railroad Driver’ attachment for tools.
  • Similar to ‘Rolling Thunder’, on-hit of blocks adds 5% attack speed, 2% less stamina consumption, and 1% less block damage per stack up to 10 stacks.
  • 50% APM, -20% STAM, -10% DAM
  • Stacks last 3 seconds. At max stacks, add 1 additional second to the buff duration up to 10 seconds.
  • Hitting an entity causes all stacks to instantly fall off. This includes entity corpses. (TFP classification)
  • Added a rare hybrid attachment called ‘The Blitzkrieg’, providing more potent stacks when hitting ANYTHING.
  • Can only be bought or crafted but requires a schematic.
  • Schematic can be looted or bought at a high price.
  • Stats of the attachment are for you to discover 😉
  • Buff icons tweaked to provide clarity of the effect.
